… is NOT the Voigtländer Color Skopar 35mm f/2.5 Pancake, but … a unique design by Japanese specialist Miyazaki-san from MS Optical R&D, the “Super Triplet Perar” 35mm f/3.5. The lens is based on a classic three-lens Cooke-triplet, a design invented in the late 19th century, albeit in a modern interpretation, developed to deliver greatest possible image quality.
According to a thread at rangefinderforum.com, the lens protrudes only 4mm from the lens mount onward in its collapsed state, and is still miniscule when extended, even compared to the aforementioned Voigtländer 35/2.5 Pancake. It is available only in M39 screw mount, but can be adapted to any M-mount camera using an appropriate LTM->M adapter. Judging by the sample pictures both in the aforementioned RFF thread as well as from MS Optical’s retailer japanexposures.com, image quality is up to par with other modern rangefinder optics, showing great colours, contrast and resolution.
The lens is available for ¥ 49,900 ($ 590 USD, € 460) via japanexposures.
