New Panasonic sensor with gapless microlenses

According to a rumor received by 43rumors.com, Panasonic has just finished developing a new sensor design with gapless microlenses. The new design will improve high-ISO image quality by approximately 1 to 1.5 stops (as eliminating the gaps between the microlenses will allow for more light to pass through to each photodiode).

The guys at 43rumors speculate we might se a sensor with this new design in the upcoming GH2. Another possibility would be that Panasonic implement the new design in their announced 20-something megapixel small-sensor compact …
