Sony recently released firmware v03 for their mirrorless interchangeable-lens NEX cameras. The new firmware adresses several issues that were criticized by reviews and early adopters alike. Among other software changes, the main improvements over the earlier firmware are:
- Autofocus support for selected A-mount (reflex) lenses
- Customizable soft keys (the soft keys were earlier fixed in function depending on shooting mode or menu page)
- Aperture priority (user-selectable aperture setting) in video recording mode
- MF assist finally added, displaying a magnified portion of the image in manual focus mode

You know what’s funny? All of this was already implemented in Micro Four Thirds cameras before the NEX system was presented. For it being an alleged “Micro Four Thirds killer”, it took Sony quite some time to realize what ergonomics are …
