Recently, the British Journal of Photography wrote an article titled “Six of the best portrait lenses“, where they compared and evaluated lenses for 35mm full-frame SLRs, rangefinders and Medium Format, featuring the Samyang 85mm f/1.4 Aspherical IF, the Canon 85mm f/1.2 USM L II, the Leica 90mm f/2 APO Summicron, the Carl Zeiss 85mm f/1.4 Planar T*, the Phase One Sekor AF 110mm f/2.8 LS D and the Nikon AF-S Nikkor 85mm f/1.4 G, as well as a short summary of portrait lens history.
Today, the series continues with “Four of the best compact cameras“, featuring the Panasonic Lumix LX5, The Nikon CoolPix P7000, the Canon PowerShot G12 and the Samsung EX1/TL500. Their verdict: “While there are limitations with each of the cameras here, to my mind, the Lumix LX5 comes the closest to the ideal mix of image quality, versatility and portability.” Personally, I miss the both the Canon S95 and the new Olympus XZ-1 in this comparison, which surely would have been tough competition for the LX5.
