Thinking out loud …

… about my PAD project. I am not sure if it’s the right thing for me. I started it because I was looking for motivation. And while it does motivate to me to shoot stuff I would otherwise ignore, it also gives me a feeling of being forced to take pictures, which takes the fun out of photography for me.

I started a thread over at rangefinderforum.com, hoping to get some input from other photographers. Do you have any thoughts on this?

  • That’s the reason I didn’t participate in Don Gianatti’s “Project 52” until now. Even if it’s only one picture per week, that would involve careful planning, and excellent execution. Plus the tasks seemed pretty difficult, like: “Shoot one CEO this week!” – the results from some were really good tho, dunno if this was a game between professionals…

  • Hmmm I guess what I really tried to say was something like:

With a PAD project, you end up having lots of photos for sure – but are you really sure that that would be the best work you can produce? I try to shoot at least one picture per day as well (and sometimes blog about those), but I gave up forcing myself to – if I don’t see anything worth being photographed, then so what?

After reading Andreas Feininger’s “If something/someone is worth being photographed, then it/they are worth being photographed good!”, I try to judge myself lots more than before. And that shows in the quantity, but – as I hope – in the quality as well…
